CAMPBELLTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY CEREMONY

Each year the City of Campbelltown and the Campbelltown Historical Society honour a family or, in this case, an organisation, that has contributed to the community at the Campbelltown Historical Day.

This year the Athelstone Football Club, that has served our community for over 100 years, was honoured at a ceremony that took place on Sunday 18th March 2007 at the Clubrooms.

Members of the Historical Society, Councillors, along with many past and present coaches, volunteers, players and members attended the ceremony.

The opening address was presented by the President of the Historical Society, Mr Peter Rumbelow, himself a former player and coach of the Raggies. Peter presented a detailed account of the history of the Club.

The Mayor of Campbelltown, Mr Simon Brewer, spoke of the Clubs humble beginnings and how important the Athelstone Football Club is to the City of Campbelltown.

City of Campbelltown CEO, Mr Peter Vlatko, delivered an informative account of the early days of Campbelltown and its evolution into the City that it is today.

Athelstone Football Club President, Mr Stephen Young, then provided an update as to the recent history of the Club and its contribution to the community today. He voiced his thanks to the many volunteers that had helped the Club to be where it is today.

The Mayor then presented the Club with a certificate in recognition of the Club's achievement.
