Dean Renfrey Retires

Regrettably the club announces that after 6 years back at the club, Dean has elected not to coach again next year due to increased family committments. Louise is looking at furthering her study and Dean doesn't feel that time will permit him to fill the coaching role.

Dean began at the club as a junior before going to Norwood, and later South, to play league football. After completing his league career he coached Yankalilla in the Great Southern League. Dean returned to the club in 1993 when close friend Andrew Jarvis (also at Yankalilla) was appointed coach. After 2 excellent seasons, Jarvo relinquished the coaching position due to work committments and the club was extremely pleased to be able to appoint Dean as coach for the 1995 season.

The 1995 season was a successful one, with the Raggies winning it's first SAFA premiership beating Edwardstown.

In 1996 the club joined the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAFA had finished) and the P2 Premiership Shield found it's home at Athelstone.

The last 2 years the club has played in Division 1 and in 1997 just missed the finals. This year was a difficult one with many injuries.

Dean played for the club till part way through the 1997 season when he suffered a serious knee injury. His leadership on the field and quality play was missed from this point on.

Dean's decision to retire was a difficult one and, as everyone that was at the club last night knows, a very emotional one.

The club knows it has been very fortunate to have had Dean involved for the past 6 years and we thank him for his efforts. See you at the games next year Deano.
