Flinders Park had all the play early and were running hard off their half back line. In contrast the Raggies were unable to penetrate and the forwards were starved of opportunities. Only strong defence by the Raggies kept the scores even. Early in the second quarter coach Thomas led by example - a slick handball to a running Lees and lace out to White. Raggies dominated for the first five minutes but then FP took the game right up to us. The Raggies defence was struggling against low well directed kicks to the leading forwards. Modbury did all the early attacking with the Raggies allowing too many options for short passes to open up our defence. In contrast the Raggies were not penetrating the half forward line and it wasn't until the twenty minute mark that Whitey marked strongly for our only goal. This was our fifth disappointing quarter for the season with our only positives being Ben Lomman winning the ruck duels and Griffin holding Vandeveld to 2 touches. The second quarter was a great revival and was to lift the spirits of both players and supporters. It was a fantastic start with Lomman winning the ruck and Lees' goaling - Modbury did not touch the ball but did reply immediately in similar fashion. It was goal for goal as the Raggies team play lifted and Modbury discovered they did indeed have opposition. A great run from Griffin from full back to pass to Hopper for a goal and the Raggies were a chance. A couple of Modbury goals from undisciplined play and 25 metre penalties had cost the chance of a half time lead. To start the third quarter a long goal to Thomas after a series of well placed kicks from the kick out and suddenly the Raggies were only 6 points down and then another from Whitey and the differnce was only 2 points. Another great run by Griffin (exposing Vandeveld) allowed Lees to goal and the Raggies are in front - never to be headed again although midway through the final quarter the scores were level. A free to Hopper put the Raggies 8 points up leaving only enough time for Modbury to have one more scoring opportunity - a goal after the siren. |

In the first quarter the Raggies had to endure a 5 minute onslaught from SPOC who added 2 quick goals by playing through the centre. It was Ruggiero who was most active putting the ball inside 50 three times but the forwards were unable to capitalise. Halfway through the quarter Thomas scored our first goal and again it was Ruggiero who kicked forward to White for our second giving Raggies the lead. Fourteen scoring shots to two tells the story of the second quarter. Raggies were unable to get any breaks from centre as our defenders were outnumbered by SPOC running in numbers. In the third SPOC scored first by again winning the centre but after 12 minutes a dramatic change came over the game. After a long goal from Thomas, quick movement from the centre and effective handballs from the backline enabled the Raggies to rattle on four more goals. Going against the breeze it was unlikely the Raggies would threaten SPOC's lead in the last quarter. But direct football from full back to full forward saw the lead cut to only 5 points after 15 minutes. Unfortunately 2 late goals from SPOC finished the Raggies dramatic revival. The game was lost in the first quarter. Athelstone did all the early attacking and strong tackling put pressure on ROC's. Unfortunately this only lasted for 5 minutes and the rest of the quarter we were soundly beaten. ROC's added the first 3 goals of the second quarter before Athelstone put their game together and added four successive goals with White kicking 3 for the quarter. Unfortunately his opposite number (Lister) finished the quarter strongly and also added 3 for the quarter. The third quarter saw the Raggies play their best team play of the day and proved that when they look forward and kick directly they can be a good side. |

Fierce desire for the ball saw the Raggies goal from the centre bounce and the Raggies were looking good adding 2 of the next 3 goals. The Raggies capitalised on their limited opportunities but were unable to contain PHOS's running players, especially through their half forward line. The second quarter was probably our best for the year. We consistently won the ball from centre and were holding the ball in the forward lines. The 3rd quarter started well. Again a goal from the first bounce and another from strong rebounding. Then all hell broke loose as PHOS added eleven goals to stifle any chance the Raggies had. |

Raggies took the game right up to the undefeated Adelaide Uni side in the first half. Tight pressure on the Uni defence allowed Fraser to goal from a brilliant smother and a great run from the backlines, good vision and team play gave Clayton an easy goal before Uni were able to get back into the game. Uni’s height across our half forward line was causing some problems for our smaller forwards. The loss off Fraser and Miller from key positions did not help our cause in the third although we created more opportunities than in the second but failed to execute. The last was our highest scoring quarter with the first goal a gem – a direct kick from the centre bounce to an isolated White. |

Eastern Park were the first to goal capitalising on a handballing error and it was another 5 minutes before Thomas was able to use the benefit of a 25metre penalty to post Raggies first. Our defenders were finding the Eastern Park forwards very elusive as they were able to lead to players breaking from centre. Excellent footpassing and marking along the eastern wing gave Lees the first of his two late goals for the quarter. In the second quarter Raggies found it extremely difficult to penetrate through half forward. After Eastern Park scored two quick goals to open the third Raggies slowly began to claw their way back into the game and following the coach’s half time instructions long kicks forward were instrumental in setting up most of our goals. The loss of Griffin late in the third was not going to help a backline already missing two of its talls in Fraser and Miller but some pressure was relieved by Raggies winning more balls from centre and some good ball movement. Once again the Raggies were able to outscore the opposition in the second half! |

In what was to prove a match winning 5 minutes, the Raggies had a dream start with 3 goals from 3 centre breaks before Pembroke scored in driving rain. Again we won the centre break for another 2 goals before a couple of defensive errors allowed Pembroke to retaliate. Pembroke started the second quarter by adding 2 goals before Clyton scored our first 15 minutes into the quarter. With the conditions improving and a Hopper goal to settle them the remainder of the quarter was more even. Pembroke had the better of the third quarter as the Raggies struggled to break through half forward in the first half of the term. We had all the play late in the term but were unable to score due to desperate Pembroke defence. 5 minutes into the last quarter the Raggies lost the lead for the first time before Motley marked the Pembroke kickout and put a long kick into the square where Lees drilled the ball through the big sticks. The Raggies were now running the game out and began goaling from set shots. Pembroke had managed to use the backwasrd handball to get themselves out of trouble repeatedly but our pressure finally began to tell. |

Kicking with the aid of the wind, Raggies made another dream start, probably better than last weeks and definitely against more highly fancied opposition. With a strong clearance by Harkin from the opening bounce and a Thomas mark Raggies had scored within the first 20 seconds of the game. Backed up by strong defensive work the Raggies had established a 3 goal break before Walkerville hit back at the eight minute mark. Prepared to run and with slick movement around the packs Walkerville gradually cut the Raggies lead in a high scoring first quarter. Although Athelstone were able to restrict Walkerville's advantage with the wind in the second we were not able to break through half forward until the final minute when White posted our only score for the quarter. Again in the third we were able to goal from the opening bounce and if it were not for inaccurate (2 goals 6 behinds) and a couple of defensive errors we may have been in front at the break. Raggies continued to put together some good passages of play in the final quarter but Walkerville continued to hurt us on the rebound. |

The game started in fine drizzle and with neither side able to establish an early ascendency as the game swayed between the two half back lines. Six minutes in Flinders Park posted the first goal for the game before Raggies replied with 2 quick goals courtesy a free kick and a Flinders Park stuff up with a centre clearance. In the last half of the quarter Raggies were creating numerous opportunities but were unable to score and Flinders Park were able to hurt us on the rebound with 3 goals. Into the second and the game continued to be an even affair as Raggies opened with 2 goals and then Flinders Park responded likewise. It was at the half way mark of this quarter when the game began to change as Raggies began to rebound well from across the half back line and if it were not inaccuracy in front of goal would have been further ahead than the one point at half time. Raggies continued this pattern in the third but as their confidence grew so did their ability to continually run the ball from the backlines and combined with improved accuracy in front of goal this became the match winning quarter. Harkin started the final quarter, which developed into a shoot out as both teams added 4 goals each, with mark of the day dead in front. Highlighting this quarter was the strong work by the forwards to hold the ball in and create opportunities. |

Despite the game starting in pouring rain Whitey had the Raggies on the scoreboard within the first minute. For the next ten minutes Modbury did all the attacking but the Athelstone defence was holding well. Harkin’s long snap from a pack clearance then started a period where Raggies were doing all the attacking with good ball movement and more accurate kicking but were often stifled by Modbury’s tactic of playing two men on Trish. Effective ruck work and good roving set up Hutchings for the Raggies third before Modbury scored their first in the last minute. Athelstone were to win every centre break in the second quarter but were unable to capitalise. Our solitary goal this quarter was a result of great movement from a kickout giving Harkin a long shot from 50 metres. As the scoring dried up for Athelstone Modbury went on the attack but again our defence held firm. A poster from Lees allowed the Raggies to take a 2 point lead at half time. In stark contrast to the first, the second half started in bright sunshine but it was again Whitey who posted the first goal with a left foot snap. Again Raggies won the centre break allowing Thomas to mark and slot one through from centre half forward. Athelstone were making plenty of forward thrusts but Modbury repeatedly marked on the last line. The last quarter saw a titanic struggle develop mainly across the Raggies half forward line where our forwards were playing desperate football and our half back line turned back Modbury’s clearances. After 17 minutes Modbury’s solitary attack posted the only goal for the term. When they followed up with a behind the scores were level but minutes later a moment of madness saw a red card and the ball turned over to give Raggies a free shot on goal. With Lees missing it was a one point game. Raggies had 90% of the play this quarter but the game was so tight that they were only able to have four deliberate shots. |

Raggies were off to a dream start with Hopper goaling in the first minute through good ball movement. Raggies continued to do all the attacking early but the SPOC defence was solid. SPOC were looking dangerous when they broke forward of centre and kicked directly to leading forwards. Raggies lost Ruggerio (collarbone) and Mumford (hamstring) before quarter time posing a problem for the Raggies on the heavy ground. The second quarter was a goal fest. SPOC were continually into attack and added three quick goals. Was this going to be a repeat of round 3? SPOC were controlling the centre bounces with the use of runners and handball and had created a huge advantage. Slowly Raggies pegged back this early lead until they were only 4 points down at the long break. Only one word can describe the third quarter – AWESOME. It was pay back time. By nullifying SPOC’s dominance at the centre bounces Raggies went on a goal scoring spree with the forward players using strong body work to set up opportunities. For the first time this season the back six were able to stand back and appreciate the Raggies attacking system growing in confidence. With the heavy ground starting to take toll the last quarter was a more even affair. |

An even affair in the first quarter. Raggies won fair share of centre breaks and used running team play to an open forward line to set up scoring opportunities. In the second Raggies had a fair share of the football but were unable to capitalise on their many attacking thrusts. In contrast ROC's who established a handy break. Trish was impressive in the first half with plenty of strong overhead marks - a great return to form. Third quarter was a replica of the first. With 75% of the play in the last Raggies put all the pressure on ROC's but could not hold the lead. |

Very even first quarter with Walkerville's first goal not coming to the seven minute mark. Athelstone's first deliberate shot at goal was not until 12 minutes in when Thomas kicked accurately. For the next 5 minutes Athelstone did all the attacking before Walkerville goaled against the run of play. Hopper bounced 3 times for a goal and a bit of magic from Fraser gave Thomas his second. The second quarter was highlighted by hard running and long handballs. It wasn't until the last 5 minutes that the Raggies broke through for 2 quick goals and a handy 16 point half time lead. The third quarter was dominated by Walkerville with 5 goals until Thomas kicked his third in the last minute of the quarter to cut the lead to 13 points. Raggies valiantly tried to regain the lead in the fourth. White goaled early but Walkerville replied with 2. Late in the quarter Raggies added 2 in succession to give a glimmer of hope. |
